Research topics
The epidemiology unit strongly cooperates in different fields of research within the Department (pig-unit, cattle-unit, IVF-unit) as well as outside the Department. The key interest points are quantification of disease transmission, statistical analysis of experimental data, and risk assessment of epidemic and zoonotic diseases.
Current research
- Development of a disease transmission simulation model for the evaluation of different control strategies for epidemic diseases in pigs (Stefaan Ribbens)
- Epidemiology of Salmonella infections in pigs (Emily De Busser)
- Epidemiological evaluation of the effect of different housing types on the occurrence of zoonotic diseases in laying hens (Sebastiaan Van Hoorebeke)
- Antimicrobial resistance in cattle, epidemiological evaluation (Boudewijn Catry)
- Antimicrobial resistance in broilers, epidemiological evaluation and risk assessment (Davy Persoons)
- Development of a model to simulate the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Belgium and to evaluate the impact of several control strategies (Sarah Van Steenwinkel)
- Risk factors for stillborn piglets and mortality in suckling piglets (Caroline Vanderhaeghe)
